A first impression of a private tennis lesson for my daughter

Well, I've been writing about my own exercise experiences for the past few weeks and decided that this week I was going to write about my daughter's instead. She is 7 years old and recently had her first tennis lesson with Shane. Read on to see what I had to say following this inaugural lesson!

I feel like a terrible person - there's us, still without a Wimbledon champion, and my 7-year-old has never so much as picked up a tennis racket before. Looking at the tennis groups, I couldnt work out which group she would fit into - so I booked Shane to give her a bit of a step up. We arrived at the court and Shane immediately made the whole "lesson" into a game. If he doesn't make it as a model - which frankly he could - then he could be a children's entertainer. My daughter told him almost immediately that she is the worst at catching in her class and he proceeded to throw her three balls at a time which instead of making her feel like a loser at catching, made her laugh and then miraculously he threw her one that she caught. She laughed her head off and by the end of 30 minutes she had got the correct position for forehand nailed without even trying. She loved it, so did I - he did more in 30 minutes for her liking sport than I've ever done. Next week I'll be booking another lesson with Shane and reviewing more children's activities because my daughter is off for the whole of April!!

Signed: A reluctant exerciser and her enthusiastic daughter.
