A first impression of 'Military Fitness', on Fridays 09:30 - 10:30am in the gym

I entered the gym with trepidation. I don't respond well to being bossed about. The idea of Military fitness itself, makes me feel queasy and I have a vision of a red-faced sargent barking instructions at me with bits of spit coming out of his mouth...ugghhhrh not very nice.

Anyway Alex is our Leader and he is wearing a bright green silky adidas tracksuit and a long-eared hat. He was certainly full of the joys of spring and greeted us all with a cheeky smile and a good morning. It didn't feel intimidating anymore but I was still dreading the actual workout. Outdoors we went and started jogging around a circuit. Every few seconds Alex would shout - "change direction!" "left hand, right hand, both hands." The group were all women and seemed really nice. When Alex said "jump" one woman shouted, "How high!", "That's the attitude! " laughed Alex. We went on to do three more sections; skipping, boxing and circuits.

Every time Alex wasn't looking at me I would skip a bit less. The other women were very good at skipping - doing lunging and general fit stuff. I loved the boxing bit. I let off quite a bit of steam and Alex spent time explaining it really well. It was strict and regimented but I had fun. I may just go back..!
