Kettlebell Training - NEW to the gym

A kettlebell is a traditional Russian training tool that has been used since the turn of the 20th century to develop full body conditioning and fitness.

Kettlebells have now arrived at The Park Club where inductions and classes are available to members who wish to learn a new skill that will compliment or enhance their current fitness regime.

A kettlebell looks like a cannon ball with a handle. The shape of the kettlebell allows for unique positioning of the weight directly above your centre of mass (unlike a dumb bell or bar bell which must be held in front of the body). It also allows you to keep your hand and wrist in neutral alignment, which enable for greater endurance and longevity in core lifts so that you can produce a much higher volume of exercise and thus greater conditioning and fitness. Kettlebells emphasise muscle integration as opposed to muscle isolation, working the body as a complete unit.

Kettlebell training can be adjusted to suit your unique goals, whether they be fat loss, cardio conditioning, gaining lean muscle mass or improving your range of motion (flexibility) and strengthening your posterior chain, to name but a few.

Kettlebell training can also be sports specific and may well be the method to take your game to the next level. Maybe you wish to have more stamina on the slopes this season, gain more speed, stability and stamina for your tennis game or simply improve your bench press max. As kettlebells work the whole body as a unit, a single movement (swing, clean and press, snatch) engages many muscles (legs, core, upper body), and as a result many calories are used up. In short periods of time it is possible to burn hundreds of calories. Kettlebell training can be a time efficient, incredibly intense and effective (and fun) workout. All kettlebell exercises are load bearing and help bones regain and maintain strength. Kettlebell exercises are gentle on joints as there is no impact, in fact many people notice joint health and their range of motion greatly improve while participating in kettlebell training.

Kettlebell training is great for women who wish to add resistance exercise to their regime and allows for strength of the Incredible Hulk without the incredible bulk. Yes, you can have a strong lean body and still look like a woman!.

Whatever your fitness goals or current conditioning level kettlebell training is another valuable tool in your fitness arsenal to help you become stronger and move, look and feel better. Book your induction this January and find out how kettlebells can benefit you.
