Tennis Grand Slam Series 2010

This years Grand Slam was another keenly contested series of events with some great matches played through the year. We started back in January with the Australian Open and had joint winners in Catherin Hogg and Carolyn Wigoder. Both players have proved they are at the top of the female game here and this tournament backed up their dominance. Lucy Clifton and Donna Hart finished in tied 3rd and a solid performance from Mathilde Guerin saw Mathilde pick up valuable points.

The next round of our Grand Slam, French Open in May, saw Sharon Stewart victorious and Alison Martin taking second place. With Inger Page, Mathilde Guerin, another solid performance, and Vicky Harvey sharing 3rd place the Grand Slam was now wide open.

Our next round of Grand Slam Series was played in June and was our Wimbledon event. Catherine Hogg was our winner again in June with George Murphy taking 2nd place. Lucy Clifton and Carolyn Wigoder shared 3rd place and Sharon Stewart and Mathilde Gurein once more picking up valuable points.

The final event of our Grand Slam series, before our Finals in October, was the U.S. Open in September. For the first time in the event history we had a 3 way tie for 1st place with Catherin Hogg, Carolyn Wigoder and Yosi Marshall all sharing the spoils. With yet another solid performance from Mathilde Guerin in 4th and Sharon Stewart and Vicky Harvey picking up more points the scene was set for the Grand Slam series Final with our top eight scoring players.

  • Catherine Hogg 30
  • Carolyn Wigoder 28
  • Mathilde Guerin 27
  • Sharon Stewart 25
  • Lucy Clifton 18
  • Vicky Harvey 18
  • Joseph Marshall 10
  • Alison Martin 10

Sadly for Lucy she was unable to make our finals day and so the next person in line was a very pleased Donna Hart.

The Grand Slam Series Final produced some fantastic tennis played by some of our most prolific female tennis players, as well as Yosi. It was a truly interesting event with the lead changing places after every round. Carolyn Wigoder came from 6th place after the first round to become our eventual winner on the day and the very pleased recipient of our Porsche Track Day first prize!

Congratulations to Carolyn and to all of our members for taking part in this fantastic annual series of events.
