The practice of yoga is thousands of years old and focuses on uniting the mind, body and spirit by combining meditation, strength and stretching.

Modern yoga has evolved and there are many popular forms to choose from. Each type of yoga class follows its own methods and philosophical interpretations, so finding the one for you is key and will depend largely on a combination of what you enjoy and what you need.

The main aspect of yoga is the asanas or poses. Most forms use versions of the same poses, but the way you move from one to the other can vary greatly.

Yoga develops strength, balance and flexibility, can be slow and gentle, energising and invigorating or technical and demanding; sometimes a combination of all these styles. It is essential to go at your own pace and within your own ability; there is no benefit in trying to compete with others.
