Iyengar yoga was developed by yoga master B.K.S. Iyengar and promotes strength, flexibility, endurance, and balance through poses and coordinated breathing requiring precise body alignment.
The poses tend to be held for longer than in other styles of yoga. Rather than flowing from one to another, you move slowly into a pose, hold it, rest for a few breaths and then move into the next.
Iyengar is precise, focussed and technical, and as such, is a great style for understanding and perfecting correct body alignment and technique. Here at The Park Club, near Chiswick, our Iyengar Yoga classes are designed where necessary to incorporate the use of props, such as cushions and straps, make it a great form for beginners or those with injuries.
